It is the first pub that Hophouse Inns acquired and is carefully managed by Melvyn Reynolds.

The Sportsman was recently voted “The Best Cider Pub In Wales 2014” & "Montgomeryshire CAMRA Pub Of  The Year 2014" by CAMRA members.

Situated in the centre of Newtown, only a short distance from the train station and the River Severn, the pub is famous for its warm and welcoming atmosphere.

With a roaring wood burning stove for the colder winter months, and a popular rear patio for the summer, unobtrusive background music and a reel of cartoon favourites looping on the TV, The Sportsman is at the heart of the local real ale community.

The pub is also the local hub for the Montgomeryshire branch of CAMRA and the perfect spot to sample the great range of local Monty's Brewery Real Ales.
